Pool Blues

Wowee zowee.

I thought a trip to the pool would be a nice way to spend an hour in the morning. Was I ever wrong. I optimistically paid for 2 hours of parking, gathered Owen in my arms, and slung the diaper bag and a bag with our pool wares over my shoulder. We trudged into the Aquatic Centre under the raindrops.

I don't know if it was the overstimulation, splashing, kids yelling, the sound of dryers, the tiles, or the lifeguards, but Owen was NOTHAVINGANYOFTHISTHANKYOUVERYMUCH.

He started freaking out as soon as we entered the "Family Change Room." I wanted to freak out too. Mums and dads in one room, changing for the pool? Thank goodness for the cubicles and the fact that I had thought ahead and put my bathing suit on at home. He had a little piss all over the communal change table, but nothing that this mum couldn't handle. He looked at the row of lockers and just LET IT RIP, tears and everything. Baffling.

After a quick mandatory spray in the shower, we entered the pool area. Then he started honking. Like a goose. Like a wounded, sad goose. It's his latest noise. It's very raspy and breathy and he continued to honk for the remainder of our visit.

The kiddie pool is no more than 2.5 feet deep and lukewarm. He just didn't take to it. He'd either honk away or focus intently on some random kid in the pool, staring at him/her silently. I couldn't stop giggling each time he'd honk. #1 Mum Award to me, please! Yeesh.

When we got back to the car and I plopped him in his car seat, he gave me a look that said, "Don't you DARE do that to me again."

Ahoy, Mateys!

When I was pregnant and thought I was going to have a girl, I would dream of mummy and me matching outfits. I had no intention of doing this with Owen. However, completely by accident, I realized that on our outing for groceries we were both dressed in a navy blue nautical theme. How fun! Up next, circus stripes! I declare every Tuesday Twin Tuesday!

There's just something about Phil...

Without fail, everytime Dr. Phil is on the TV, Owen drops what he's doing and swivels to face the TV. There's something about Phil's voice that Owen can't resist. Unless it's his advice. Bizarre.

Seven Months

Happy 7 months to my most sweetest baby boy!

Owen currently loves going to the park to have a go at the swing and watching all the other kids run around. He continues his trick of blowing bubbles on everything: food, mummy's neck, faces, and water. He has learned to take off his hats, which is a problem when we have been having glorious, sunny days. This kid enjoys his food: steak, chicken, tofu, fruit, veggies, yogurt, eggs.

We love you, Odie!

A Sunny Afternoon in the Park

We spent an hour or so in the park this afternoon. Owen touched grass for the first time and had another go at the swings, which he loves.

Baby Hangouts

Jana and Owen, Paula and her daughter Sulekha, and David and new baby daughter Quinn all stopped by our new place on Friday afternoon for carrot cake, chats, and a walk. It's great that pretty much everyone in our circle of friends has a baby or is expecting. Our discussions and activities certainly have changed, but we are now all in the same boat, talking about poop, sleep, and parenting. I wouldn't change it.

New Art

Loving my new print from Becca. I got the goats and have hung it in the hallway just outside our bedroom so I can take a good long look at it when I get up in the morning.

Right on, Frank. I totally relate.

Moving On

* Me and Owen on our last day at the Faversham

We've now been living in our new home for about two weeks. Although we only moved a few blocks northeast, it feels like we're in a different world. Quiet residential streets, children everywhere, shops and cafes even closer to our home.

The Faversham is where Adam and I lived together for the first time, where we got engaged, where I got pregnant, and where we brought our little Owen. I miss the old hardwood floors and glass doorknobs. I miss the little doorbell at our front door. I don't miss the noise and dust, the bathroom tiles that could never look clean after 50 years of use.

Our home on 17th Avenue is starting to feel right. Things have found their place. The dishwasher is always being used, as are the washer and dryer (hallelujah!). Owen's room is lovely, and Adam and I have our space back. Life is good.

My First Mother's Day

Now that I'm a mum, all I can say to my own mum is THANK YOU for everything you've done and continue to do. Being a parent is HARD WORK but it doesn't REALLY hit you until you become one.

Owen gave me a cute card with a gift certificate for a mani/pedi and Adam took us out for breakfast crepes around the corner from our new digs. We enjoyed a quiet family morning.

The following day, Owen and I had a visit with Auntie Alice, Grandma, Pep Pep, and Uncle Joel. Adam ran the Sun Run on Mother's Day and did really well! After a long walk for coffee, Pep Pep and Uncle Joel prepared a Mother's Day brunch for us gals and Owen. It was delicious! Both Owen and I were spoiled for our first Mother's Day: Thoughtful gifts from people who aren't my children and lots of quality family time. You can't ask for much more than that!

Hiatus

Still in the process of moving. What a lot of work. The last time I moved, I moved from my bedroom to an apartment with Adam. Needless to say, this move was very different. Owen has handled it all much better than his mother. We just got the internet back after many days. I had to learn about Sandra Bullock's adoption from the TELEVISION!!!!
